Projects Update

I updated my portfolio this morning with some new projects. I am really excited to be expanding the repetoire of different design projects I am creating. We (we as in me and my associate) are currently developing a real estate website with the RETS system implemented. It's just exciting to learn how to do new things and tie them into what we have been doing for some time now. In the past when I started in about 2001, I was only developing websites for music industry people and nowadays those seem to be more and more dissappearing.

So needless to say I am excited for what the future holds and am also amongst the business trying to develop a new website for codyL.com!

I heart Google Now More Than Ever!

Google won my heart with their search engine way back in 1999. But many
years later I have adpoted GMAIL as my preferred e-mail of choice, and
among other things. I have stepped into the arena of Google Reader, which is amazing by the way! The mobile support is up to par, and the Trends section is useful, it just goes toward a better goal of synchronization I believe. Google is a landing page for me and I find myself starting there in any browser.

I didn't willingly go into the experience without a nudge though, a friend of mine Noah Tutak (big dog @ www.geni.com) always has the edge of new web wares at his disposal so he lets me know from time to time which is the most useful apps and sites. This is a great thing! But anyhow I just am thankful that Google has made life easier, and I know they rule the world (seemingly) nowadays. But hey, I'm a busy man and I need to be synched and consolidated as best as I can be!

So it's been a while. But there is fruit being yielded from our endeavors. New sites for GROVE, and ElephanT, and then we have more to come so keep it locked!

Another week, another site launched. Kevinmax.com v6 is now live and while I still like the last site a lot it was time for a change. So that guy is up and it's hott, white hot! Also a new story worth noting is that HD DVD overtook VHS in sales figures! Yes! It's DVD next I guess right? Or laserdisc, or minidisc? Technology is funny and beautiful at the same time.

Apple has released a nice update to the iMac family and it is very nice, and iphone esque. Anyway more sites coming soon for giant2, TheGrove, and more!

Oh yeah and I finally added a new PRINT project for Monarch's "Lowly" record.

Apparently I Love Spam

I was browsing through the site Blog today and noticed a peculiar thing....MY SITE IS SPAMMED UP! Oh and I got some tech news too.

So I promise to go through and delete the comments sometime soon. I am thinking one of those verification things would do the trick to help filter out the random spamming. Well in other news, Tivo™ launched their cheaper Series 3 HD dvr today. I am thinking about getting one for my living room. Being a Tivo™ customer for more than 2 years, I appreciate their service and I have been having to transfer recordings from my Eyetv to my XBOX for the longest time. I am either cheap or have too much time on my hands...yeah I'm cheap.

So also this past week they announced a dual HD player for Samsung. The BD-UP500 is due to launch this fall for around 1 grand. But I am hoping for a slightly lower price point. Once again with the Costanzafeld.

So yes, looks to be a good year for some good products. More sites coming soon too! Cool ones, you know "rock it to me, sock it to me sites!"

Who's Next?

Don't call it a comeback! A mid-summer greeting to all of you! Just put up a few more projects and there is more waiting in the wings. One being a new front-end for Kevin Max, and a cohesive website for TheGrove Community Church in Riverside. Keep checking back for new work as it is compiled!

Oh, we also finished a cover for a great band from NY called MONARCH. The name of the record is "Lowly" and it will be out soon. I will give a link for you to check out the record.

Here's Another One

Just posted a few more projects. I always seem to be so picky when thinking of what sites to put up because I am such a tough critic and want my site to look cool or whatever. But I know by a potential client seeing sites that are much like they are wanting to have put together for them is a good thing. So here are a few different type of sites than I usually do which I actually had fun doing.

So the XBOX360 ate the dust

My beloved XBOX took a turn for the worst saturday morning. I moved it from it's orignal position and proceeded to clean with a dust rag and spray out with a 3M dust remover can the thing stopped working! I am so bummed! So since I bought mine in 2005 when they first came out I have no luck on the warranty. So it's a $120 and 2 weeks without the thing! I will get by, I might have to read a book.

VIRB is the new Myspace?

Myspace is so 2005. Well, it was a good idea right? There is a new kid in town though! The name of the site is called simply: VIRB. It is a social networking site made by the cool people @ Purevolume.com. VIRB.com is a fresh and very user-friendly, non softcore porn, ad hogging site that is very mac friendly and nice to look at!

Visit VIRB.com and get yourself moved over! They even have a way to redesign your myspace with a VIRB theme showcasing the site and inviting people to move too!

The Current State of HD Movies

So I am a huge fan of the HD movies (Blu-Ray and HD DVD) for those aren't in the "know." I bought in easily because the year prior I purchased an XBOX 360. The add-on costs only $199 and it was absolutely the cheapest way to gain entry into the HD movie club (or so to say). So when I got the player, I was very excited to set up camp along with the HD DVD fanboys. Well, some time has passed and while I am still very pleased with how impressive the quality is of the Microsoft drive and the movie quality equally, I am totally bummed on the movie selection.

I find myself buying a lot of movies that I would skim over (The Mummy, etc). I do know in fact that the earliest releases from the HD DVD camp looking clearly better than Blu Ray releases, but it seems that for the most part the studios have fixed whatever bugs from the beginning and have brought the quality up to par. So this is good news right? Well I guess not for me with the HD releases being 1 to 5 of Blu Ray titles! I really don't have a ton of time to invest in watching every single movie that might pique my interest in an HD format, but for crying out loud don't make this so hard on me!

I digress....but seriously, it's not the hugest pickle since Blu Ray proportionates Sony have announced that they expect Blu Ray players to drop to around $299USD this year. I guess I can buy in at another $100 more than I bought in last year right? I just hope the rug doesn't get pulled out anytime soon from the better format ala VHS vs Betamax. But someone has to win right? Yeah they have to, and it won't be the better quality necessarily that wins, it will be the one who releases the best selection in movies. Even if they are another $3-4 more because of the nice blue packaging!

Well, that's what I have to say. For the sympathizers, if you would feel so inclined to donate to me a Blu Ray player, I would gladly accept. But until the price comes down a tad, or unless I get more time and resources (dough) I will hold off just a bit.

As I was glancing at my traffic stats today I noticed a few peculiar things. One being that this lowly blog page is frequented more than even my portfolio page! Which is nice to know some people out that care what I have to say or they merely stumbled onto this page and immediately clicked off. Either way I have been considering opening an additional site to post my rants, but since this has a steady stream of traffic, I will keep it home @ codyl.com!

So get ready for some (hopefully) enjoyable reading. I want to review some cool stuff I am into and shed light on news of techno-goodness and rant some more too. So yeah! Thanks for reading this thing and I hope I might have more to say to keep you from clicking-away into the deep abyss of the internet(s).

Back Again

In retrospect, and looking into the future. The best of '06, and what to expect in '07.
Well I can't believe it's already 2007! A sub par year for music and film, and a good year for growth, 2007 promises to be very nice. More projects are on the horizon and details are forthcoming.

Apple + Tivo = The most amazing thing ever!

PVRblog is reporting what it calls a "wild rumor" that landed in its inbox alleging that Apple will license TiVo software for its upcoming iTV box, which will reportedly be called the Mac Media Capsule.

Maybe a hoax, but I sure hope it happens! I am an avid mac AND tivo fan so let's hope there is some truth to this.

Early Adopter/Late Adopter

This week saw the arrival of HD DVD at the codyL headquarters. I am rather impressed that my XBOX 360 could output solid video resolution like it does. I mean, I fully buy into the HDMI theories and proof, but the transfer of the mini USB and the VGA to my DLP is magnificent. Okay so maybe if I was running 1080p with HDMI it might look a bit better (noticeably). But I am completely satisfied with my investment.

I know it's pretty early to get onto the bus of either format (HD DVD or Blu Ray) but I felt pretty safe with the minimal price so I hope this thing can at least get me through the life of my 360. Hello Sega cd! Just kidding!

The late adopter part is about my switch to the devil itself: Google. No Google didn't buy me out, (it would be nice!) I am just using Gmail finally and so far I love the connectivity of it. I mean, I can check and send in my Apple Mail app, check mail on the phone and have the nifty little Google system will lots of storage for free. Not bad. Not bad at all in my bok. So yeah that's what's going down. Working on a few small things this week and looking to book the rest of November so hit me up if you want to get some stuff done!

This is the brand new codyL.com in full effect! I hope everyone will see this site and be able to navigate through it easily so feedback is paramount! But I am really excited and would like to apologize for my Word Press phase where I got lazy with doing my own site. Don't get me wrong, I think Word Press is a solid blogging app, but I am much more into doing my own thing with my own rules.

So with that being said you will notice that there is a way to not only subscribe to this blog, but there is a way to subscribe to my work-flow. That might be slightly more interesting to have show up in your reader than my dumb ranting about my biased view on all things APPLE and other tech ventures. But you should read it once in a while anyway ;)
